Kolkata: High Command Congress on Tuesday decided – opposed the desire of the Bengal unit – not to involve a candidate against the Head of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee at Bhowanipore Bypoll.
Congress’s decision has implications outside of Bhowanipore, leaving broad instructions that may be used by the party on TMC in the Lok Sabha 2024 poll and placing a question mark on the party alliance with the left.
Meanwhile, BJP Bengal was sent to the Kuningan Party of the six candidates who were possible, including former Governor of Tripura Tathagata Roy and the Priyanka Tibrewal High Court lawyer, to be placed against Banerjee.
Candidates will likely be announced on Wednesday.
