Washington: The United States and Russia will hold strategic talks and strategic control of Biden administration next week in Switzerland, the two countries announced on Friday.
Wednesday’s discussion in Geneva came because the two countries were involved in a myriad dispute ranging from the weapons system to Cyberattacks, Ukraine and the allegations of Russian interference in US elections.
However, Geneva talks are expected to deal especially with the issue of strategic stability as President Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin agreed during their meeting in the same Swiss City last month.
“This meeting followed up on the commitment made between Biden President and Russian President Putin to have intentional and strong dialogue between the two countries we would try to lay the foundation for future weapons control and risk reduction measures,” said the risk department, ” Said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who is currently traveling in Asia and will meet Chinese Foreign Minister on Sunday, will lead the US delegation, accompanied by a newly confirmed US weapons control diplomat, Bonnie Jenkins.
The Russian team will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Both parties hope to explore ways to move beyond the new initial agreement agreed by Biden and Putin earlier this year to extend up to 2026.
The agreement will expire in February and the former government of President Donald Trump has not moved to extend it.
Trump’s administration has resigned from several weapons and agreements related to Russia during the time in the office, causing anxiety between US allies in Europe and elsewhere.
The previous administration said the pact was obsolete and Russia in continuous violations of them.
The Biden government wants further weapons negotiations to include numeric non-strategic nuclear missile warehouses, which are not covered by new early and are special attention to European allies.
Russia said they would insist that every new Testament included the negotiation limit on US missile defense, which they saw as a long-term threat to their strategic arsenal’s feasibility.
