Mumbai: The Mumbai Traffic Police save the life of a 35-year-old woman who tried to commit suicide by trying to jump to Vashi Creek, an official said on Tuesday.
Constable Satyanarayan Shinde, attached to the Traffic Police Unit Bandra, was on his way to Navi Mumbai’s house recently when he saw a woman standing close to the edge of the bridge above the river in a suspicious way.
“He stopped his car, rushed to the woman and stopped him from jumping.
He then registered the assistance of two autorickshaw drivers and took the woman first to the police barricade who fell on the mankhurd police jurisdiction, who asked him to go to the Vashi station police,” the official said.
Shinde called the Vashi control room and ensured the woman reached the local police station correctly, where she said she planned to end his life because of some domestic problems, the official said, adding that the woman was then reunited with her family members.
Shinde, whose statement was recorded by the Vashi police in connection with the incident, said he was happy that his actions were on time to save a woman’s life.
“He told me that he wanted to die because nothing happened correctly in his life.
If I would be late for a few minutes, he would jump to the river,” Shinde said.
