Islamabad: Pakistan has reported more than 3,000 new Coronavirus cases on Thursday, up 46 percent take place in the last 24 hours, and the highest single-day surge witnessed for the past four months has been driven mainly by Omicron variants, according to official data.
On Thursday, 3,019 cases were reported, compared to 2,074 24 hours earlier, data compiled by the National Health Service Ministry showed.
As a result, the level of progress has also jumped to 6.12 percent from 4.7 percent reported the day before.
The last time the country reported more than 3,000 cases of Coronavirus on September 15 last year.
The ministry has reported that the number of confirmed cases has risen to 1,312,267, while the dead have touched 28.992 after five people died in the last 24 hours.
So far 1,260,045 people have fully recovered, but 651 is still in critical condition.
The number of active cases has increased to 23,000, up from 17,748 on Monday.
The fifth wave of Pandemi, which crashed into Pakistan earlier this month, was driven by the Omicron variant of Coronavirus, the Ministry of National Health, Regulation and Coordination, which is the cabinet level of the Pakistani Government Ministry with the responsibility for the national public health, said.
The increase in new cases came even though Pakistan managed at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine to more than 100 million people and fully vaccinated more than 75 million people.
