Corp identified 700 defaulters because of tax contributions above RS 1L

Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue wing from City Corporation has identified more than 700 absenteeism that owes tax contributions above RS 1 Lakh.
The cumulative contribution of this defaulter is estimated to reach Rs 44 Crore.
In the past two months, the corporation managed to collect around RS 17 Crore after a tax database update in all wards.
The income wing has issued a first round notice for all absent with contributions above RS 1 Lakh.
A number of Rs 3 Crore has so far been accepted by the corporation of several absence.
Revenue officials said the collection of contributions is expected to increase in the next two months and most contributions will be released in March.
This is possible especially with zonal office efforts to update and issue actual tax contributions.
Previously, people were reluctant to use the online system because it would reflect the fee from the previous fiscal even though it would be paid.
After the database is updated, only fiscal contributions are actually reflected in the account and many residents who choose online payments that also allow them to generate an online receipt and save them in a digital format.
Corporate officials said that the total property tax collection through online payments had increased significantly which also resulted in the peak in collection for fiscal 2020-21.
With Covid Lockdown which affects property tax payments directly at 2020-21, online payments increase, especially after City Corporation issues an updated database and actual contributions for each ward.
In 2020-21, the total demand for City Corporation in property tax was Rs 96.8 Crore and was able to collect Rs 75.8 Crores which was the highest collection of property taxes since 2016-17.
The corporation has not passed RS 70 Crore in the collection in the last five fiscals.

Usually, collections increase in February and March; But this year, there have been significant inflows since November and in the next three months if the collection exceeds RS 40 Crore, the corporation can record almost 90% of actual requests.
