Coimbatore: City Corporation plans to get 13 crores per year because of the user’s costs on garbage collection from door to door.
Although money will help the civil body to provide better services to residents, it will cover only a small portion of the funds spent on the collection and disposal of waste.
The corporation must pay rent for vehicles used for garbage collection, on vehicle maintenance owned by the corporation, to buy fuel for vehicles, set and maintain a garbage disposal unit, and pay maintenance workers for the door collection, said a senior official.
“We are reviewing the way garbage is collected and discarded to see if the money spent on service can be lowered.
We found that the door-to-door collection used the trash can more than the door to the door using a light commercial vehicle,” he said.
The corporation has passed the resolution to get 500 trash cans at a cost of 2.38 crorses and five.
Compactor at a cost of 2.06 crores, the official added.
