Coimbatore: City Corporation has taken a bulk drive to clean the public toilet within its limits.
The three-day drive, which began on Monday, came after TII reported about poor public toilet conditions in the city limits in the edition published on Monday.
The report has dig into a sad condition of the toilet, which does not have basic facilities such as water supply, tap water, lights, buckets, doors, hooks and sinks, force people to urinate and defecate in the open and defecate big.
There are 371 small rooms at the Border of Corporation City – 91 in the East Zone, 79 in the Western Zone, 64 in the North Zone, 65 in the South Zone and 72 in the central zone.
Most toilets are also not well maintained.
A civilian body official said they were driving a bulk cleanser based on the instructions of the corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara.
The health team in each ward will clean the toilet in their area with water first and disinfect them later, he said.
“While all the toilets will be cleaned, special focus is given to those in a crowded area and at the bus terminal.
Led and electric pipe work will also be carried out.
Pipeline will be provided anywhere and will be replaced in a case of leakage,” the official said.
A health official said officials when corporate employees are used to clean the toilet regularly, it is difficult to ensure their cleanliness without user cooperation.
“Many users leave without drinking water after using the toilet.
It must stop.”
