Coimbatore: City Corporation plans to demand large channels flowing through the boundaries before the sea of sea to prevent floods of lowland areas.
The corporation has cleared the storm waterways for around 184 km in a week’s training ended on Saturday.
The city has storm waterways up to 1,500 km.
An official with a corporate technical wing said there were four main channels that ran through the city.
Sanganoor Pallam, who began in Thadagam Valley and ended in Saranallur Tank, covering a distance of 11.5 km, was the longest of them, followed by a Vaikkal king, which began in Noyyal and ended in periakulam, covering a distance of 6.5 km.
The remaining two main canals include those flowing through Ganapatati and others passing ondipudur.
An official with the East Zone corporate office said three canals ran through their limits.
“Drive cleaning will begin on Wednesday.
The corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara has examined several channels and is given please on Monday.

It will take almost one to three hours to unlock every point.
