Salem: Opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and coordinator with AIADMK Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday accused fraud in the procurement of sugar cane to be distributed to a ration card holder for Pongal.
He accused that the DMK government had deceived at least Rs 15 per sugar cane.
EPS stated that the government held sugar cane for RS 33.
“But it only gave Rs 15 to RS 18 to the farmers and the rest went to their pockets,” he thought while talking to reporters at the party office in Omalur in Salem area.
Recently, the Tiruvannam District collector seized 2.5 tons of jiggery which was not feasible for consumption.
Citing this, Palaniswami said that the DMK government held very cheap quality goods from the northern state and distributed it to the public.
“They did them with the cheapest rates for commissions,” he said.
“Corruption, commission and collection is a motto for the DMK government,” he said.
EPS accused that the state government has deceived money in the procurement of “menjapai” (yellow bag) too.
“They said they would get it for Rs 30 per bag.
But, Pongal Hamper’s prize was not given with a cellphone holder in several Ransum stores,” he said.
