Cotton University celebrates 121st Foundation Day

GUWAHATI: The next wave of Covid-19 noodle limited Cottonians from observing the glory of this British-era Cotton University (erstwhile Cotton College) that culminated in an age of enlightenment through greater education in the northeast.

But high in nostalgia, both the pupils and alumni chose to societal networking to express their own fond memories from the esteemed institution, considered a new name within the area of instruction.

In the event of its 121st base day, the earliest premiere educational establishment in northeast India, coordinated a celebratory virtual match on Thursday.

The occasion flagged off with a welcome speech by the accounts, Prof.
Diganta Kumar Das followed with the Vice Chancellor Prof.
Bhabesh Chandra Goswami’s inaugural address that set out a fact sheet of this university’s present programmes, strategies and prospects.

A brief movie clip highlighting Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s private associate with the establishment and his feelings as an former Cottonian had been performed throughout the function.

Ranoj Pegu, the Minister of Education, Assam chaired the Digital assembly since the Chief Guest.

This was followed closely with the President of Cotton University Students’ Union (2019-20), Hirak Jyoti Patowary sharing his own adventures as a Union body and truthful opinions about the establishment.

The prime attraction of this event was that the’Foundation Day Lecture’ that was given by Prof.
DN Buragohain, Professor Emeritus and Former Director IIT Guwahati.
In his address on the subject’Self-reliant India’,” Buragohain discovered how Indians were beneath convinced but exceptionally gifted and glowing.
He advocated that Indians need to shift their mindsets and create honesty and ethics to have the ability to reach perfection and continue along the perfect direction.

In another substantial occasion of the parties, two members of school, a research scholar and an alumni were praised for excellence in their disciplines and also for being honoured with awards.
Pupils who attained laurels in academics, cultural and sports fields were acknowledged.

The vote of thanks was provided by Abhilasha Neog, Assistant General Secretary, CUSU (2019-20).
“The programme has been attended by a great number of faculty members, officials, researchers, non-teaching staff members, alumni members, retired faculty members, Executive Council members, Academic Council members along with representatives from the press through internet Zoom platform along with official Facebook page at this University,” stated an college spokesperson.
