Guwahati: Cotton University (Cu) on Tuesday told that they would recognize the undergraduate program (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) students who lost their parents to Covid-19.

Despite entering a leading state university almost ended in October, notifications issued by the Cu Academic Registrar, Dutta SK, said the student would be received under special provisions.
Even though Cu is uncertain about the number of applicants for the Covid-19 quota, notifications say that for some seats for the first semester receipt of UG and PG 2021-22, the application will be invited in ordinary paper with a deadline of November 15.

“The application must be accompanied by a medical certificate that mentions Covid-19 infection as the cause of death of one of the candidates’ parents,” read the notification.
Dutta says the best students from the quota application will be selected.
On UG and PG, around 1,200 seats are recently filled but few more seats under extracurricular activities and quota that are reserved are in the process of filling.
In the Covid-19 quota, a total of six seats in the UG course, each three in BA and BSC, will be filled.
Dutta said they had not decided on the number of seats for PG.
In the midst of the second wave, Minister of Justice Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma has launched a special scheme to offer Rs 2.5 lakh to women, who have lost their husbands for Covid.
But there is no policy to support students.
“When we offer acceptance under various quota in the extracurricular category, why not order a few seats for students who lose their parents because of a pandemic? We can proudly say that this is a unique initiative of our university,” Dutta said, giving credit to CU VC, Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, to add a new quota.
“Applicants who lost their parents for 2020 and 2021 were eligible for this quota,” said previous notice from the University.
This quota will not apply to one of the UG programs that finance themselves and BA in liberal arts.
