The Ministry of Skills and Entrepreneurship Development applied its mainstay scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in 2015, through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to overcome the problem of unemployment in this country.
Under PMKvy 3.0 (2020-2022), which was launched on January 15 this year, the target to train 8 individuals has been established and 1.2 Lakh candidates have been trained so far.
Under the PMKvy scheme, various initiatives are taken to ensure better placement results for trained / certified candidates.
Apart from the effort, placement has not reached the target.
According to data distributed in parliament recently, only 2.32 million were placed between 2015 and July 10, 2021 while 6.59 million people were trained during this period.
Raj Nehru, Deputy Chancellor, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU) emphasized the importance of student counseling before recognizing them to certain skills development courses.
“The performance of PMKvy in terms of placement can be associated with the selection of wrong courses by a candidate.
Partner training institutions should not only aim to meet the registration target.
They must provide a preference to the tendency of students to the course offered to them,” said Nehru.
Course curriculum needs to be designed according to industrial needs to ensure a better payment package and placement of students who take skills courses, he added.

Sandeep Kumar Ka, one contact point (SPOC), Roomman Technologies, PMKvy, Nelmanagala, Bengalore Rural, said that students must be advised about skill courses before the list.
In addition to counseling, parents must complain about the course.
Some students were registered in the course without telling their parents and then refused to choose employment opportunities if they were far from where they were, he added.
“This scenario has a negative impact on placement statistics.
When PMKvy aims to overcome unemployment, which may not be confused with the wrapping course,” said Kumar, who paid attention to the poor impact on the placement in the post-pandemic world.
“Our courses equip students with skills that are not suitable for working from home.
The current situation has caused a placement crisis,” he added.
Some skeptical students take jobs because they don’t want to travel with public transportation.
Proximity to the Industrial Hub
Vinod Kumar, Associate Professor, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra, SBS Postgraduate Government, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand said that closeness to the industry center has a better role in better employment opportunities.
“We are in a favorable situation as State Infrastructure & Development of Industrial Corporation Uttarakhand Ltd.
(Siidcul), which is home to various large and small industrial units closer to our institutions.
Almost all students registered in various courses offered by Kendra have opportunities Work in Siidcul, “Vinod said.
Having an industry closer to institutions accelerating placement and collaboration between industry and academics, he added.
