DHAKA:A few thousand Rohingya staged”unruly” protests Monday against living circumstances to a cyclone-prone island away Bangladesh in which they had been transferred out of enormous camps in the mainland, authorities said.
Since December, Bangladesh has changed 18,000 from a projected 100,000 refugees into the non invasive silt island of Bhashan Char in the Cox’s Bazar area, where several 850,000 people reside in squalid and crowded conditions.
The majority of these had fled a brutal army offensive in neighbouring Myanmar at 2017 which UN investigators reasoned was implemented by”genocidal intent”.
Monday’s protest demanded around 4,000 individuals, authorities said, also collaborated with a review visit by officials in the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR).
“The Rohingya that are there became tumultuous that the minute the UNHCR agents landed (on the island) by helicopter now,” local police chief Alamgir Hossain told AFP.
“They broke the glass warehouses by hurling stones.
They came in the authorities.

Their requirement is they do not need to reside.
” One Rohingya guy confirmed to AFP that bricks were thrown along with police prevented them from entering a construction in which the UNHCR officials had been still present.
Following the initial move on December 4 into the flood-prone island in the Bay of Bengal, many Rohingya told AFP they had been beaten and intimidated into agreeing to become emptied.
The claims are echoed by faith groups.
The Bangladesh government has rejected the allegations, stating the island has been secure and its centers much superior than those from the Cox’s Bazar camps.
The UN stated it hasn’t yet been involved in the procedure.
