Ranchi: The Government Jharkhand Food Department, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs aims to get around 8 lakh metric tons of rice from farmers this year.
By 2020, the country has bought a little more than 6 metric metrics tons of rice during the Kharif season.
“Padi procurement began from the second week of December in 2020.
Preparation of rice procurement has been resolved by the Department and Registration of new farmers ongoing.
We hope to start procurement around the same time this year,” Hien Pandey, Secretary of the Department of Food, Public Distribution, and consumer affairs.
In October this year, the Country Cabinet approved the department proposal to close the maximum procurement of one farmer in 200 quintals.
This was done to ensure that the more small and marginal farmers were brought under the ambit scheme of rice procurement.
This country provides rice from farmers amounting to Rs 2,050 per quintal.
More than 1.03 lakh farmers are expected to appear at the center of rice procurement this year.
“Unlike other countries such as Bihar, farmers in Jharkhand take late transplants.
So, while many countries have started procurement, our farmers are still harvesting their results,” said a senior officer.
Thousands of men, who work in various countries, returned to their homes in the Jharkhand countryside during the harvest season every year.
