Covid-19: Concerns over foreign passengers ‘cannot be reached’ to Assam

Guwahati: International tourists who are bound by Assam, many of their cellphones are turned off, have raised concerns in the health department in the midst of scare omicron.
The source at the State Health Department told TII that passengers, registered on the air suvidha portal, are thought to be in other Metro or enter the state through land routes to avoid covid tests.
Consider the inactivity nature of the new variant, the lack of timely tests has pose a threat from the possibility of spread.
“Even when the State Health Department is aware of the arrival of passengers in India, travelers cannot be traced.
The registered cell phone is turned off or cannot be reached.
In the midst of conquering Omicron, this has emerged as a concern,” a senior official said the Ministry of Health.
The district monitoring team felt difficult to track some of these passengers, whose notes had been taken to central notice.
“Some do not respond to the health monitoring team.
Some phones are still turned off, while some behave badly with health officials by telephone.
Many reply to email requests sent by the district team,” officially added.
The State Health Department has not officially confirmed the Omicron case.
However, the genome sequencing report of many foreign tourists, which has been tested positively, has not been received by the Ministry of Health.
“All genome sequencing reports only 12 of the 29 positive foreign returns in Covid have been received.
There are some cases infected with Omicron whose reports have not been sent,” officially added.
About 2,377 international travelers entered Assam through air route since December 1, 29 changed positively and samples from all were sent to the sequencing genome.
In Kamrup (Metro), the highest 803 tourists have arrived.
Significantly, some foreign tourists have also tested positive covids in recent weeks.
Sources say the search for contacts of patients infected with Omicron suspected, originating from Tinsukia Regency, has been carried out.
But there have been no reports of viruses that spread to fellow travelers.
The source said if Omicron was confirmed, the contact contacts from all of these cases must be carried out thoroughly according to the protocol.
But as a precaution, the search for passenger contacts arriving in Tinsukia has been carried out.
“Most foreign travelers who have been positively tested in Assam do not show symptoms and are tested positively on the eight day of testing.
They have recovered without health complications,” officially added.
