CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 6,162 fresh Covid-19 cases and 155 deaths even as 9,046 patients were discharged.
There were 49,845 active cases in the state.
The last time active cases were below 50,000 was on April 13, when the second wave began to peak.
At the peak of the infection, TN had more than 3.13 lakh people in the active registry overwhelming the healthcare system.
“We are now reporting a steady decline in cases every day,” said health minister Ma Subramanian.
“People should continue to stay indoors, wear a mask and maintain social distance at all times to keep the infection curve low,” he said.
Coimbatore continued to report the highest number of new and active cases in the state.
The western district reported 756 new cases followed by 641 cases in Erode, 419 in Salem and 386 in Tirupur.
Coimbatore had 7,248 active cases followed by 4,965 patients in Erode and 3,530 patients in Chennai.
Chennai reported 372 new cases.
While 18 districts reported cases in two digits, five districts reported fewer than 50 new cases each.
Tenkasi reported 31 new cases – lowest in the state.
Of the 155 deaths, Chennai and Ranipet reported 15 each, followed by 12 in Coimbatore and 10 in Vellore.
All other districts reported less than 10 deaths each.
Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Thiruvarur, Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram reported zero deaths.
