Kolkata: worshipers throughout Kolkata celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi on Friday in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic for the second year in a row.
The traditional spirit of the festival is displayed at Shree Siddhivinayak Mandir near the Tala Post Office in North Kolkata and Maharashtra Nivas at Hazra Road.
Pandal throughout the city echoed by Song Ganpati Bappa Morya in the midst of prayer for health, wealth and prosperity.
Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee visited Maharashtra Nivas after submitting his nomination for the Bhowanipore Assembly by prayer.
Ganesh Chaturthi organized by Maharashtra Mandal is one of the oldest in Kolkata, celebrated since 1930.
“The minister’s chairman comes here every year to give a prayer,” said Nandita Gadre from Maharashtra Mandal.
While most of the pujas ganesh in the city was observed only three days, which in Maharashtra Nivas was celebrated for 10 days.
This year some housing complexes and block committees also started their own Puja Ganesh because the Covid-19 safety guidelines prevent people from the crowding community pujas.
Given the situation of the pandemic, the committee regulates Darshan Online, packed Bhog and setting a separate seat for parents.
Ganesh Puja gained the advantage in Kolkata in the last or more decade when it became a permanent environmental event with several merchant associations, clubs and politicians starting their own puja to set it connected with the masses.
In Bangur, a NGO working with visual blindness and other people specifically organized Puja Ganesh for the first time.
“This is the first time we set Puja.
For the past one and a half years everyone has experienced depression with almost all the opportunities to celebrate and interact with the outside world,” said Debajiyti Roy, NGO secretary.
