Kolkata: Kolkata Metro has decided to re-introduce tokens to travel after being stopped last year because the service was closed in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, an official said here on Tuesday.
The Metro has made a smart card compulsory when it was raised again in September last year after a lolared trip restriction.
“Tokens will be reintroduced on the north-south and east-west line of November 25,” Metro officials said.
These tokens will be removed from all station counters as before for commuter comfort, he said.
Apart from the ticket counter, the token can also be purchased from the automatic smart card refill engine, he said.
Many riders occasionally find it uncomfortable to buy smart cards and thus avoid using the metro, which is a cheap and fastest mode of transportation in the city.
Metro authorities require regular commuters to continue using smart cards for available services.
It is said that commuting will continue to get a bonus of 10 percent at the value of riding a smart card and will also be able to recharge this online.
