Bhubaneswar: State capital has provided a vaccine dose to more than 95% of the targeted population.
As per the record, 8.1 lakh people have received both jabs from around 8.5 lakh populations that meet the requirements above 18 years.
The first number of recipients in Bhubaneswar, was pegged at 10.74 lakh, more than the target because the city had also provided a vaccine to the floating population, people from the district.
Many are also believed to deliberately visit the city because of the availability of vaccines.
To reduce the case of everyday, the city authority has decided to accelerate inoculation by introducing drive-in vaccination, near the house and take a walk, which draws people to sites.
Since May the first week, the vaccination rate jumped and in the first week of June, the age group of 45 years plus here has been saturated with the two doses.
In the case of the use of vaccines, city authorities claimed to have crossed 100% using more than 18 lakh doses.
“Because our qualified population is 8.5 lakh and we have used more than doubled doses, we have achieved 100% vaccination,” said Sanjay Kumar Singh, Commissioner, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
He added that they had an inoculation target of 3,25,000 in the age group of 45 years and 5,17,000 in the age group 18-44 and both were achieved.
“We will do mop up activities to identify whether there are residents left to be vaccinated,” Singh said.
BMC officials said according to the 2011 census, the capital population was 8,37,737, but in 2021, the population was estimated at 10,97,000.
Singh said BMC had conducted a survey and data revealed 24,000 people had not taken the second dose.
After verification of 12,000, 75% said they had taken the second dose.
“There are data incompatibility and we look into it.
Remembering incompatibility, it can be said that the number of people who are fully vaccinated can be higher,” the commissioner was clarified.
The second wave of Covid has ended vaccine doubts among health workers in the capital, where the number is high.
Initially, their footsteps on the vaccine site were very low.
Many doctors and nurses have turned his back on vaccination, even though they were the first among priority groups to utilize the covid vaccine which was given their exposure.
Many were reluctant to take Covaxin, which was only intended for Bhubaneswar, because it had just cleared the first phase test.
After the third phase test report came and the Covid wave reappeared, those who were originally reluctant to advance to take Jab.
