New Delhi: Covid-19 has shifted focusing on biotech and genetic intervention, and it offers the right opportunity to work on the results of strategic research specifically centered on India, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said.
Overcoming scientists and officials of the Biotechnology Department (DBT) at his first review meeting on Friday after taking over as the Minister of Science and Technology, Singh said India had a large resource material for research.
It can offer exclusive world preventive and therapeutic options, especially considering the fact that Indian phenotypes and genotypes are different from all over the world, he said.
As a result, both epidemiology and clinical diseases, including infections that are currently common because of coronavirus or mutant virus, can be different and therefore, the researchers and state scientists also owe the responsibility to provide Indian drugs for Indian patients, Singh shows.
“Covid-19 has shifted focus on biotech and genetic intervention and this offers the right opportunity for us to work on the results of strategic research which is specifically centered on India, and can provide answers to a number of questions caused by contemporary health scenarios,” he said , The Minister stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took personal interest in scientific and technological related programs.
It offers exceptional support and protection for all brotherhood, he said.
Singh asked biotechnologists to identify at least two exclusive projects that could be examined, and were completed with certain conclusions and the results of the 75th Independence Commemoration of India in 2022.
“If we succeed in doing it, we will not just be able to show off superlative talents of Indian scientists But it will also work out with research findings that can be exclusively and published throughout the world as Indian discoveries for humanity during the most testing period, “he said.
Referring to great potential in the field of biotechnology, Singh said somehow this has not been used optimally.
However, he said, it is time to give a special boost and put it on the fast track.
The Minister asked DBT to explore the feasibility of carrying out projects along with the main medical institutions such as AIIMS and at the same time also involved the industry, private players, and young beginners in these projects.
Singh strongly emphasizes the need to strengthen infrastructure power by reducing the number of autonomous bodies that function in DBT or try to combine two or more to make it more focused and oriented.
He said time has come for DBT emerged as a service provider for citizens together and contributed to “ease of life” and “ease of health”.
The Minister also underlined the need to reduce all types of wasteful expenses.
