GUWAHATI: Assam on Wednesday ordered that from the current month the Covid-19 vaccination status of its frontline employees will be ascertained before releasing their salaries and said that the overall situation in the state was “still a matter of concern,” which required continuation of the curbs.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority in its order stated that “non-vaccination of such frontline government servants may give rise to the possibility of further spread of the virus which, in turn, may endanger the lives of common citizens, especially the vulnerable groups like infants, pregnant women.” The warning to the government frontline employees to get themselves vaccinated has come amid an ongoing enhanced vaccination drive in the state with a target of inoculating three lakh persons each day till June 30 for now.
More than nine lakh persons have been given the first dose of vaccination in three days since Monday, which has pushed the total vaccinated people in the state to over 63 lakh, which includes over 11 lakh people with second dose.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Day before Yesterday it was 3,71,080, Yesterday 2,49,835, Today 3,00,000 till now and counting Thank you Team Assam.
Let’s continue with the momentum.
Thank you @narendramodi for your love and affection to the people Assam.” Chief secretary Jishnu Barua in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 22 (2) lb) and (j) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, upon him as chairperson of ASDMA “direct all departmental heads to ascertain the vaccination status of such frontline government servant before releasing the monthly salary/remuneration from current month onwards,” the order stated.
The order also stated that the situation of COVID-19 in the State has been reviewed and observed that “though the number of COVID-19 patients and positivity rate is declining in some districts, the overall situation is still a matter of concern for which adequate containment measures are still necessary to contain spread of COVID-19 in the state.” The state’s test positivity rate remained under 2% for the third consecutive day on Wednesday while 30 persons succumbed in the day across the state.
District-wise, Golaghat remained at the top with the highest caseload of 212 on Wednesday followed by Kamrup (metro) with 187 cases, Sonitpur 177 and Nagaon 171 cases.
