Chennai: new cases that declined across Tamil Nadu for more than two months began to rise a little for the past two days.
They rose 100 cases to 1,859 on Thursday.
On Friday, the country reported 1,947 new cases.
Coimbatore, where the industry returned to work with full force, and Chennai saw a small cluster that contributed to the increase in cases.
This has not been surprising for the State Health Department, which expects a decrease in the case to slow down two weeks after relaxation of locking.
A week after each phase unlocks, the rate falls down.
“Any spike in case is the cause of worries, especially with neighboring countries that report high amounts,” said Minister of Health MA Subramanian.
In February 2021, when epidemic waves were receding, similar clusters – hostels, hotels and family reunions – marked the beginning of the deadly wave.
On Friday, Coimbatore crossed 200-marks.
“We have now identified two areas – tendrils and caramadai – which began to see increased cases,” said Deputy Deputy Public Health Dr.
Senthil Kumar.
The challenge now is to make sure the curve doesn’t rise again.
