Covid-19: The second dose doubt puts Assam’s vaccination drive in the crisis

Guwahati: Assam, which is under the center radar for low testing and fresh Covid-19 case detection, is finding the reluctance of beneficiaries to take the second dose as the biggest obstacle.
According to the State Vaccination Office, the second dose of 8.52 lakh which was late defeat across Assam, even as the State Health Department planned to fully vaccinate one crore with both doses in the first two weeks of November.
The Head of Minister of Himanta Minister Buswa Sarma on Saturday night held a high-level meeting where the progress of the vaccination campaign in the country was also reviewed.
The senior health service official who attended the meeting told toi that the maximum focus was given to accelerate drive vaccination, because the state government was not in the mood to impose a hard covid restriction in the country except the third wave crashed into the country.
State Nodal Officer of Covid-19 Vaccination, Munindra Nath Nattey, shows that the covishield maturity in the state is 6.79 lakh doses, while in the case of covaxin, the amount that has matured is 1.73 lakh.
“We send bulk sms repeatedly to beneficiaries that must come soon and vaccinate with the second dose,” said Ngatey on Sunday.
The growing concern is about the missing dose as a country inching exploring an estimate of 2.10 Crore which meets the 18-plus requirements with the first dose in November.
In mid-September, five lakh people had missed the second dose when the second shot was due.
According to existing rules, in the case of covishield, the second dose is scheduled between 84 and 112 days.
On the other hand, the second dose of Covaxin matures between 28 and 42 days.
Ngatey said the second dose will be given even after the due date ends.
“Many of them skipped the second shot on time still came to get the second second shot.
But parts of people were reluctant to take both doses both in rural and urban areas despite reminders,” he added.
As on Sunday night, Assam has been inoculating 2.01 crore (2,01,68,495) with the first dose, while the second dose inoculation figure reaches 80.67 lakh (80.67,047) in a joint victory.
With one to two Lakh Jab managed every day on normal days, the vaccination target of the entire 2.10 Crore population seems to be achieved in November.
Ngatey said the whole focus would then be placed on the second dose inoculation.
However, the health department official noted that the proportion that was seen from people had moved from one place to another after getting the first dose.
This has increased the difficulty to compile vaccinated beneficiaries data because these people take second jabs in new places with different identities.
