Covid-19 Vaccine: AEFI case in adolescents can almost be ignored

Mumbai: almost a month to adolescent vaccination, examples of bad events reported after immunization (AEFI) can be ignored and much lower than adults.
However, there are concerns about the lack of general awareness among people about reporting AEFI.
Experts say while fundamental anxiety or conditions can lead to unusual health events after vaccination, each of them must be reported immediately for a comprehensive investigation.
A precise case is that a 16-year-old Sangli boy who has three episodes of intermittent from vomiting blood, days after he took Jab Covid at his school.
The family got a boy hospitalized and spent Rs 30,000-35,000 on the test, but did not think of reporting unusual episodes from vomiting to any health district or school officials.
The boy went down with post-orgotted vaccinations, but the vomiting episode began on the third day.
Uncle boy admitted that it had never occurred to them to tell the authorities, until he had the second episode.
“We don’t know who should be approached to report this case.
We have now reported it to district officials,” Uncle said.
Dr.
Vivek Patil from the Sangli Public Health Department said the boy was diagnosed with hiatus hernia, which could cause blood vomiting in some cases.
“This is not associated with a vaccine,” said Patil, added that there were no severe side effects that had been reported with Covaxin, but such cases must be reported on time.
Two weeks ago, the death of a teenage girl in the city four days after vaccination pushed rumors that it was related to immunization.
While the AEFI Regency Committee ruled out the role of vaccination in his death, the fact remained that doctors who certified death and their parents told health authorities.
Dr.
Mukesh Agrawal, who heads the AEFI Mumbai committee, said it is very important that parents or teachers report anything from their place.
“Covaxin is no doubt a safe vaccine and we have not found severe side effects.
But, it is the work of the expert committee to override whether the side effects are related to vaccination,” he said.
In all states, most drives occur in schools and colleges.
Dr.
Sachin Desai, who heads the State Immunization Department, said the AEFI level among the age group 15-17 years was ignored at 0.004%.
“The teacher has been told to supervise and tell district officials,” he said, adding that 120 AEFIS was reported from 25 doses of lakh given.
