Chennai: Thiruvottiyur, Tondious, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Teynampet lagged behind in vaccination of second dose, after covering less than 60% of the qualified population, which is less than the total coverage of 73% of the city coverage of 73%.
Most of the city’s population is qualified because the second dose is in these four zones, according to officials.
In terms of numbers, it’s eight lakh people.
Although only 49% had taken their second dose in Thiruvottiyur, it was 47% in TondairPet, 56% in Thiru VI Nagar and 51% in Teynampet.
There are marginal doubts in several densely populated areas in these areas, add officials.
Corporate commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi, however, said many might have taken their doses in their places to work, which is why some zones show 100% coverage.
“However, there are doubts in several regions, especially the coastal,” he said.
He said that the corporation tried to overcome it by educating the public through a conscious program.
“We have also visited the house and persuaded residents to take a vaccine,” he said.
While the qualified population in Manali (zone 2) only 81,182, a total of 1,04,912 has taken their second dose in the zone.
The reason, officials said, is that it is an industrial area where workers from all cities and even other countries may have taken their doses.
Likewise, Madhavaram, other industrial locality, also shows 100% coverage.
Dr.
Hemalata, an additional director, the corporate city medical office, said the staff had been instructed to conduct camps in places where there were fewer coverage and higher doubts.
“There are some doubts in the slums, but most have been resolved.
We have arranged camps in all places where the coverage is lacking, and encouraging people to take Jab,” he said.
Meanwhile, the city has vaccinated 97% of its population with the first dose.
As many as 414 people over 60 have received their booster shots in their homes.
The Cowin portal from the Indian government shows that 19,208 people have taken their booster shots, which are around 25% of those who meet the requirements in the city.
