Chennai: At the beginning of the second wave of Covid, 66.2% of people in Tamil Nadu have antibodies against viruses, according to surveys by the State Health Department.
The increase number is because more people are infected by viruses or vaccinated.
Phase 3 Serosurvey Cross Sectional Countries conducted in July by the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine conducted surveyed 26,610 people from 888 clusters in all districts.
Health workers took blood samples from each of these groups, which have 30 people drawn randomly from a village (in rural areas) or roads in (urban areas).
These samples were tested for the existence of antibodies to SARS COV-2, viruses that caused Covid-19.
These tests were carried out in the six Laboratories of the Reference Directorate at Chennai, Trichy, Madurai.
Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Salem.
The analysis shows that among the samples tested, 17,624 people have IgG antibodies against viruses – either because they are infected or vaccinated against the virus.
Although the overall seroprevalence was 66.2%, it was not uniform in all districts.
The highest seropocytivity was observed in Virudhunagar (84%), which was more than 37% reported by Erode Regency.
While Chennai has a 82% seropositivity, coimbatore and Erode each have 43% and 46%.
“The second wave is fierce.
The state reports more than 36,000 people in a day goes beyond the health care system.
In addition to people who show symptoms and then tested positively, there may be many other people asymptomatic,” said Public Health Director Dr.
TS Selvavinayagam.
“In addition, vaccination drive is intense.
Until the beginning of this survey on June 10, 97.6 people have received at least one dose of vaccines,” he said.
