Regardless of the high number of Covid-19 deaths in recent months, the death rate in the second covid wave in India remains lower than the first.
However, the second mortality rate still climbs with several countries that continue to report a relatively high number of victims.
The level of case fatality (CFR or Death Rate) in the first wave is 1.41%, if this year’s march1 is taken as the beginning of a new wave.
So far, four and a half months after starting, CFR in the second wave is 1.28%.
The overall CFR in India stands at 1.33%.
In July so far, the mortality rate of 2.12% has been recorded.
Last month, the tariff was even higher at 3.07%.
One reason for high CFR since May-end has become the high number of “backlog” deaths, especially in Maharashtra, but also in smaller amounts in Bihar, MP, Goa, Uttarakhand, Odisha and Kerala.
So far, 2.55,923 deaths have been recorded in the second wave (since March 1), almost 1 lakh more than the toll in the first wave (1.57 lakh).
Meanwhile, on Friday, India reported 38,019 new cases and 559 deaths from viruses.
