Mangaluru: The number of penalties imposed in Dakshina Kannada due to violations of Covid-19 regulations by government institutions have approached the sign of Rs 1 Crore.
On July 23, the district had collected Rs 99.3 lakh as a penalty, by ordering 81,547 cases for people who do not wear masks and violate social distance norms.
In addition to the Department of Revenue, Local Urban Agencies and Gram Panchayats, Police Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru City Police have also collected a penalty for violations.
Some cases under the IPC and Karnataka Act sections Epidemic disease and disaster management law have been ordered for violations of Covid-19 guidelines.
Commissioner MCC Akshy Sridhar told TII that the urban local body had continued the drive against Covid-19 violations in the city.
“We have continued our drive with violations of Covid-19 regulations, although not intensive.
Our team continues to inspect shops and public places, to prevent violations and also to create awareness about this problem,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra said that urban local bodies, police and Gram Panchayats have been asked to continue to apply punishment to those who do not wear masks in public places.
“People must wear masks mandatory, and maintain social distance in public places,” DC said.
Spike in cases in the case of DKH everyday Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada saw a marginal increase, with the district that reported 295 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday.
The daily test level (TPR) from the district also increased slightly to 4.4%.
TPR below 3.5% in Dakshina Kannada in the past week, and the district reported an average of 200 cases.
The number of active cases also increased from 1,967 to 2,079 on Friday.
Meanwhile, four fatalities increased the death toll from the district to 1,388.
The district also reported a case of musicycosis on Friday, taking the total number of active cases to 23.
DC KV Rajendra led a college medical meeting, a private hospital and official from the Ministry of Health on Friday, to discuss the possibility of the third wave in the district.
He directed the health department to train doctors and staff and prepared for the third wave.
Special emphasis must be given to keep the tab on the health of all children under 18 in the district, he said.
