Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported less than 5,000 new Covid-19 cases after almost a month on Tuesday, when the country added 4,519 new cases to state registration, issuing 20,237 people, and declared 37 deaths.
With this, active cases in the state fell below one lakh to 90,137.
Decreasing the number of cases, at the same speed as the increase, has produced a bell-shaped curve in the epidemic graph during the third wave.
It took 17 days to the country to touch 30,744 cases on January 22 from 4,862 cases in January.
It took the same 17 days for cases falling below 5,000 on Tuesday, said Public Health Director Dr.
TS Selvavinayagam.
On Tuesday, five districts -Theni, Tirunelveli, Nagapattinam, Perambal, Sivaganga and Vellore – reported an increase in marginal 1-5 cases more than their new cases on Monday.
All other districts reported a decline in new cases.
Chennai (792) and Coimbatore (778) continue to report the highest number of cases, and all other districts reported less than 400 new cases respectively.
Mayiladuthurai (12) reported the least number of new cases, followed by Tenkasi (13) and a scrambling (13).
The last active case below 1 lakh was 27 days ago on January 12.
Of the 37 deaths, there were 11 in Chennai, four in Coimbatore, three in Madurai, and two in Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Namakkal and Sivaganga.
Ten other districts each reported one death.
Meanwhile, 1.6 people lakh over 15 years took vaccines on Tuesday.
The cumulative tally coverage of vaccination for caution doses starting January 10 touched 4.51 lakh.
