Bhubaneswar: Although Omicron (B.1.1.529) is blamed for a progress that is underway in Covid cases in the world, in Odisha still accounts for about a quarter of the total case, the latest analysis by the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) here is revealed.
The report came on the day when the positive active case in the country crossed 35,000 for the first time in six months behind 8,778 more positive testing.
ILS analyzed the genome of 263 samples from those who had tested positive for Covid between December 29 and January 8.
“The results on Wednesday showed 67 of them positive for Omicron while the rest had the delta,” said Ajay Parida.
Ajay parida samples come from people in the community and not those who have just returned from abroad.
The total case confirmed by Omicron in Odisha rose to 170.
Previously, when the Covid spread was not so fast, the percentage was far less (below 10%) because 103 was positive for Omicron from between 1100 samples tested.
