Bhubaneswar: When the country has removed most of the sidewalks, the case of fresh Covid in Odisha has shown a marginal increase with 1315 people infected in the last 24 hours compared to 1032 on August 2, three months.
The level of testicitivity test (TPR) crosses 2% on Wednesday compared to 1.9 on Tuesday and 1.53 the day before.
Khurda Regency, which Bhubaneswar is part, accounts for a maximum of 413 new cases and has a 4.1% highest TPR followed by Cuttack – 198 cases and TPR 3.29%.
While the two districts contributed 46% of new infections, Bhubaneswar, where vaccination was close to saturation, itself reported 266 cases.
Increased cases are welcomed with concerns by experts.
“When locking is almost picked up, every new increase in case may be a worrying trend.
The only way out is for people to take over and stick to social blasphemy and use masks even if vaccinated,” said Bionod Patro, Professor Additional Community Medicine and Dean (Research) at AIIMS BHubaneswar.
Patro observed that since Bhubaneswar, who had vaccinated most of the people with two vaccine doses, reported the highest number of cases, most of them could breakthrough infections.
“Vaccinated people must remember that they are equally vulnerable to infection, although the severity of the disease will be less in it.
In the process, they will spread to people who are not vaccinated,” said Patro.
In the state, so far 31,712 people were tested positive after taking vaccines (0.18%), including 17,824 after the first dose (0.13%) and 13,888 after both doses (0.34%).
Bhubaneswar has reported 4,693 infections after both doses (0.63%).
Ajay Parida, Director of the Institute of Life Sciences, said the three-day trend was not enough to conclude that cases increased.
“Someone has to wait two to three more days to see if there is a further increase,” he said.
Authorities said the government had maintained a watch close to the situation.
“In terms of grouping cases, there will be quick detention steps.
The collectors have been asked not to reduce the testing target set for the district so that infection is not missed,” said Secretary (Health), Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra.
