Paris: Schools remain closed in 19 countries because of the pandemic, affecting 156 million children at risk of what “disaster generation,” the head of the United Nations was warned on Monday.
Statement from UNICEF and UNESCO leaders, who are responsible for the problems and education of children, said, “The government has closed school too often and makes them closed for a long time, even when the epidemiological situation does not need it.” They suggested that “the school must be the last of close and the first to reopen,” with the effect of closing ranging from the achievement of low education to mental health problems and increased malnutrition.
“We urge decision makers and the government to prioritize the reopening of schools that are safe to avoid disaster generations,” UNICEF leader Henrietta Fore and Head of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay wrote.
“Closing our future mortgage schools for unclear benefits for our present.
We must prioritize better.
We can open school safely, and we must,” he added.
