Nagpur: Onam, an annual 10-day harvest festival from Kerala, is celebrated by Malayalis throughout the world in Chingam to respect the return of King Mahabali and Vaman Avatar Lord Wisnu.
The festival is escorted in the midst of many people with people who practice various traditional rituals such as decorating their pages with ‘Pookalam’, a rangoli made of flowers, preparing a party known as ‘Onasadya’ and performances such as traditional dances and music called ‘onaChalike’.
However, as in 2020, this year the celebration plan will remain calm because of Covid’s pandemic.
People have chosen to spend time with their family and close friends.
The past president of Keralyee Samajam, Manoj PV, said several families will head to the farmhouse to call at the festival.
“People will dress in traditional clothes and the family will prepare onasadya together.
Last year there were more restrictions and so we couldn’t have fun in all celebrations,” Manoj added.
Sree’s City President Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Pavithran Karat said, “Previously, various organizations used to celebrate Onam with the entire community.
Because of the locking, we will observe the festive opportunity at home with our family rather than participating in large public functions.
Turning the cuisine Traditional Onam will be an important part of this lucky day.

Menon believes the festival does not need to be a big celebration.

We tried to get Papadam and banana chips from the nearest Kerala shop,” he said.
“Because my parents with me this time, I have decided to spend a day with them and arrange a onam party,” said Rekha Nair, principal of scholars, atrey layout.
“Lockdown causes certain restrictions to go out and buy items needed for the festival but thanks to e-commerce sites, stock-free online shopping treated,” he said.
