Covid death: Relief is paid in 80% of cases in Karnataka, showing data

Bengaluru: Around 80% of applications that seek compensation for death from Covid-19 have been cleaned and the amount of assistance is disbursed to the next relatives of the deceased in Karnataka.
Compensation RS 205.7 Crore has been distributed among those who are below the poverty line (BPL) and Rs 68.8 Crore among them in the category of poverty lines above (APL).
The Union Government announced compensation of 50,000 rs for grieving families (both below and above the poverty line), while the country decided to pay another RS 1 Lakh to the grieving BPL family.
Documents accessed by TOI revealed that 38,332 Covid deaths were recorded in Karnataka on December 31, 2021.
However, from this, in 3,507 cases, compensation was rejected or the victims were found from different countries or did not have different heirs.
After cleaning the list based on the categories mentioned, the authorities revised the Covid mortality target to be compensated at 34,782.
Of these, 27,462 applications have been removed, while 6,776 others are in process, investigated or not delivered.
The status of aid grant to 500 other strange covid victims cannot be ascertained.
“Some people who are financially stable have refused compensation and instead asked us to help in need,” confirmed Kumar DM, Director, Directorate of Social Security and Pension (DSSP), the income department, which has been given the responsibility of the distribution of compensation.
Bagalkot has reached 100% of the target, by cleaning all 309 applications related to compensation.
Bidar, Dharwad and Gadag have reached 99% or more, while Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Shivamogga and Vijayapura have met 98% or more.
Bengaluru Urban has cleared 35% of the application, while the achievement of BBMP is at 67%.
Most applications – 8,400 – have been removed in the BBMP area, which, which, however, also contributed most of the applications that were delayed (3,858).
More than 1,000 applications have been removed in Dakshina Kannada, Dharwad, MySuru, Tumakuru and Hassan District.
The biggest challenge DSSP faced in tracking families from the deceased is that many of them have given the wrong cellphone number or incomplete addresses, officials said.
DSSP requires many initiatives to ensure the next relatives of the deceased receive compensation.
“We publish advertisements in newspapers, television, and make announcements via radio.
Bring a step further, we post this on social media to handle various political leaders and influencers, but there are still hundreds of people who have not returned to us,” Director DSSP said.
