Hyderabad: Even before the Rail Metro Hyderabad can return to the Pre-Covid level, in terms of passenger feet, the new Omicron variant attack has sent footsteps crashing again.
“Before the pandemic, the number of footsteps, drifted around 4 lakh per day for the third metro corridor.
After the second wave, the footsteps had begun to increase and touch 2 lakh around October last year because everything began returning to the track.
But now it has slipped around.
1.3 lakh per day, “said a source at Hyderabad Metro Rail.
One of the main reasons the sharp decline in footsteps is that most offices, which have opened after the second wave, have returned to work from home, both fully or rotated.
“I used to travel every day from Hitech City to Ameerpet and Metro used to be full during rush hour for the past few months.
But now, I travel every day alternative and find almost half empty seats at a certain time possible because of many offices, like us, have shifted To the rotation work of the office strategy, “said Kiranjyot Kaur in the Ameerpet area.
Apart from WFH, another factor is to scare the Omicron variant which greatly transplants when using public transportation.
This even though the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities put a lot of effort to take frequent sanitization activities.
However, the authorities felt that this, became sankranthi season, was not the right time to assess footsteps and clear images to appear only later.
But the fact remains that poor protection is the main reason why the project for the construction of the second phase of the Metro has not taken off.
“The three corridors have very small foot points.
While in the pre-covid daily footsteps have reached 4 lakh, it is expected that over the next two years will touch 8 lakh every day but this has not happened,” said the inside.
