Kolkata: At the end of day 1 of the booster dose drive, 4,532 people received Jab in Kolkata.
In all states, that number is 35,081 and the extraordinary majority of them are health workers and front lines.
CVC managed by KMC throughout the city witnessed the thin presence of senior citizens on Monday for various reasons.
For example, King Chatterjee, a retired government officer from the Ballygunge Circular Road, queued in front of the KMC Covid (CVC) vaccination clinic for a booster dose.
Since Chatterjee suffered diabetes and hypertension, he was asked to produce a doctor’s certificate to support his claim.
After reading in the newspaper that there was no such evidence for senior citizens to get a booster dose, he tried to debate his case, but had to be disappointed again.
While some have similar problems such as Chatterjee, others do not come out of their homes that are afraid of infection when the virus spreads like fire.
Also, not many really qualify for doses on Monday.
Last January-Februury, when managing the first dose for health workers and those who have a co-morbidities have begun, there is reluctance.
As a result, the second jab was delayed, and the nine-month gap needed to qualify for the booster dose had not ended for the most part.
At 2:00 p.m., most vaccination clinics in South Kolkata have less than 10 senior citizens who are willing to take a booster dose.
In a Bhowanipore clinic, medical officers recorded the name of a solitary senior citizen who took a booster dose.
This center is known as one of the busiest clinics throughout the south.
“The clinic in Bhowanipore has requested a prescription as proof of senior citizens.
Because seniors are not ready with such documents, they must return without Jab,” said KMC health department official.
Over the day, the medical officer part was responsible for some CVCs managed by KMC to stop demanding a medical certificate from senior citizens who had gathered to get shots.
A medical officer responsible for CVC in Tollygunge said at the end of the day, only seven senior citizens were given a booster dose there.
A similar scene was witnessed in the CVC managed by KMC in most North and Central Kolkata.
According to the source of the KMC health department, most of the senior citizens who qualified for the dose of the booster did not come out of their home which was afraid of infection.
“Our clinic is located in Kankurgachhi-Ultanga belt, Belowaghata, Posta, College Street, Taltala and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road noted a low presence.
This case is similar in Bhowanipore, Alipore, Behala, Tollygunge, Lake Gardens, Jodhpur Park and Jadavpur in the south City, “said KMC health department official.
