Covid goes, neuro problems & brain fog survive for some

New Delhi: Sudhakar (name changed) recovered from Covid-19 in May.
But even now, he finds it difficult to focus on work or do basic mathematical calculations.
Sometimes, the 40-year-old child also suffers from headaches that survive despite treatment.
“I underwent a brain MRI over the advice of neurologists to put aside tumors or infections.
There is nothing wrong.
The doctor said it might be a post-covid complication,” said Sudhakar.
But he is not the only one with such a problem.
According to Dr.
J D Mukjaji, head, the Department of Neurology, Max Healthcare, there are at least one to two similar cases of post-covid neurological complications every day.
“In the past month, I have seen at least 20 cases of brain fog (confusion, the inability to focus) in the patient restored covid.
We have also found eight cases of Guillain-Barre’s syndrome where the immune system attacks nerves and one of the facial paralysis or The weakness of the face muscles, “said Mukherji.
While most patients recovered with symptomatic treatment, Dr.
Mukherji added, those with strokes and brain inflammation require prolonged care and appropriate drugs.
“A 32-year-old girl who presented Covid infection was given steroids.
He suffered from diabetes and ketoacidosis and then mukormycosis.
He then has a large brain stroke that requires surgical decompression, ventilation and supportive therapy.
However, he died after a prolonged stay and many Complications, “he said.
A recent study in Lancet revealed that 33% of post-covid patients continued to have almen neuropsiciates.
This includes the loss of flavor, odor, confusion, inability to focus and lack concentration.
Some others develop delirium, arteries, and venous strokes and meningoencephalitis.
Dr.
Shuchin Bajaj, the Founder Director, Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals, said Fog Brain is the most common neurological symptom in recovering patients.
“They come up with complaints about the inability to concentrate or remember something.
Many also have post-traumatic stress disorders and anxiety problems.
Other very common symptoms are dizziness and blackouts,” said Bajaj, added that all cases of light head light or blackouts should not be Be labeled as neurological origin because this can also be caused by postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, where there is sudden tachycardia and lower blood pressure when the patient changes the position of the body or stands.
“In my personal practice, I see five to seven post-covid patients with neurological symptoms almost every day,” said Bajaj.
“And they vary at the age of 30 years to 75 years.
However, there are very few children, which is a good sign that young people do not have many post-covid complications.” Dr.
Vinit Suri, a senior neurosciences consultant, Apollo Hospital, and Dr.
Anurag Saxena, head, surgical surgery division, Manipal Hospital, both confirmed the trend.
Other doctors say, “Covid-restored patients must be careful for symptoms such as a new focus deficit such as onset suddenly vertigo, sudden or significant losses in memory and the emergence of new strokes.
Timely interventions can help in more recovery good.
