Guwahati: Traders along the narrow street of the council council, extending from Guwahati’s club to Bamunimaidan in the city, fear of losing their business if the state government acquires land for the construction of the four-lane flyover proposed for 5 km along the stretch.
Most entrepreneurs in the area are the oldest occupants in the region and are included in the Assam community.
While putting the foundation stone for a new flyover at Zoo Road Tiniali on Tuesday, Minister of Himanta’s minister Buswa Sarma announced that the construction of the Flyover Club-Bamunimaaidan Guwahati will begin at the end of the year.
According to traders, they were still struggling to revive their business, which was hit by a Pandemic Covid-19.
“The business sector, like the others, has caused a big loss due to a pandemic.
After the second wave, we started running our business in the hope of reviving it, so we can at least feed our family.
Many business owners have not cleaned their rental contributions.
Now , will be another blow before an entrepreneur, if the government acquires land for flyover construction, “said Narayan Medhi, who runs his business in the Chandmari area for more than 40 years.
The stretch of Guwahati’s club to the Chandmari colony area is narrower than other stretches from Chandmari Colony to Bamunimaidan.
“The city is not planned.
The road wide in this densely population city, which has around 13 Lakh populations, is the task of Herculean now.
People will definitely refuse.
Development is needed; but people should not lose their livelihoods,” said Basanta Deka , a businessman in Silpukhuri.
He said the number of inadequate parking areas in the city and non-compliance with traffic rules was the main problem, which needed to be resolved.
“There are no parking facilities from the Club Guwahati area to the Bamunimaidan area.
People park their vehicles along the road, which causes traffic jams.
We need a solution for this,” he added.
