‘Covid Hospital’ status without compliance with fire safety: Divisional commissioner

Nagpur: Getting the status of ‘Covid Hospital’ without meeting the Fire and Electrical Safety Protocols standards now it will be difficult.
On Tuesday, the Divisional Commissioner Prajaka Lavangare-Verma urged the collectors of six districts, during a meeting review in the background of the Ahmednagar tragedy, to act hard with hospitals that did not comply with fire safety norms and standard protocols set during experts.
Audit.
Senior IAS officers have asked the collectors to act ‘consciously’ and ‘wise’ with hospitals do not have fire safety compliance while approving their Covid status if there is a surge in the number of cases.
District administration was urged by the Division Commissioner to start a meeting with stakeholders to ensure fires and electrical safety norms were obeyed and obeyed by private hospitals.
Lavangare-Verma has also requested a six-district collector to release the budget through Covid Funds District Planning Boards (DPC) for government hospitals to meet fire and electrical security standards according to audit requirements.
The Division Commissioner has also emphasized the size of the Nagpur pattern in which collectors have released the Covid DPC funds to increase fire and electricity safety measures at the Government Hospital after the Safety Audit of Post Bhandara Tragedy this year when fires at the District Government Hospital have claimed life around 10 newborns in neo-natal intensive care units.
Apart from Nagpur collector, Gondia and Bhandara were also studied to release Covid DPC funds to comply with fire and electrical safety norms.
Lavangare-Verma has also asked the collectors and technical experts from various departments to reflect on the installation of ‘gas detectors or alarms’ after deliberation at the secretary level review meeting.
“The alarm or gas detector will be able to detect concentrations or accumulated combustible gases such as oxygen in the icus or room in the hospital where their use is higher,” he told toi.
Lavangare-Verma has also instructed the district administration to ensure that private hospitals did not get the ‘B format’ approval they were intended after complying with safety standards, such as doing artificial exercises, if compliance with fires and electricity audits were not fulfilled.
He also urged the Head of Administration to ensure a vacancy for fire safety officers was filled with local civil bodies through the recruitment process.
Meanwhile, the statistics shared by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Fire Department showed that only 45% of hospitals had submitted their ‘B’ form this year, 20% had a fire fitness certificate, 27% had conducted their fire audits and 71% had completed Drill Mock.
