Covid: HYD Homps saw an increase in breakthrough infections

Hyderabad: In the past month, several hospitals in Hyderabad have reported between 5 and 10 cases of each breakthrough infection.
According to the WHO guidelines, the infection breakthrough occurred when someone tested the positive Covid-19 two weeks after taking both vaccine doses.
Doctors worried about signaling the possibility of a further surge in the near future.
At present, they estimate that around 10% of all Covid-19 cases consist of patients suffering from breakthrough infections.
“This is mostly seen among patients with co-morbidity such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, on immune suppressors such as cancer patients or organ transplant patients.
Even though we have experienced a breakthrough infection among our doctors, they are very light,” said Dr.
Pradeep Panigrahi, Medical Director, SLG Hospitals.
However, the doctor maintains that the death rate in these cases is still close to being ignored.
“While vaccination is very important to control the spread of Covid-19, there is no vaccine that is 100% effective and that is why this breakthrough infection occurs,” said Dr.
Nikhil Mathur, head of medical services in the hospital.
He added: “The good thing with this infection so far is that mortality can be ignored and also a short hospital.
Mortality is mostly still seen among people who are not vaccinated today.” Apart from the breakthrough infection, the hospital also reported Case – around 25% to 30% of all Covid-19 patients – where some vaccinated individuals have signed a virus again.
The rest, they said, are among individuals who are reluctant to vaccine which has not taken a single dose.
“There are also some cases where patients have been infected immediately after taking the second dose, but have not completed a period of 14 days after vaccination.
This is not included in a breakthrough case but comes to us in a critical condition.
This is because they have not installed an adequate immune response,” said Dr.
Visweswaran Balasubramanian, Vergactonal Pulmonologist consultant, Yashoda Hospitals.
