New Delhi: Covid-19 Cases continue to surge in this country for the third day running with almost 16,700 new infections recorded on Thursday, 27% more than the previous day counting.
Daily case counts have risen more than 2.6 times since Monday.
On Thursday, India has recorded 16,695 fresh cases until late at night, with data from several countries yet entered.
This is the highest single increase in cases in 71 days since 18,388 cases reported on October 20.
Tally late Thursday is expected to exceed 16,700, 27% higher than 13,180 infections detected on Wednesday.
Cases have increased dramatically in just three days since Monday, when 6,242 infections are recorded.
While the biggest nail was seen in large Metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru, cases rising in most states except Kerala and those who were in the northeast.
Maharashtra reported an increase of almost 40% in a day, with 5,368 new cases posted on Thursday.
Of these, 3,555 came from Mumbai, which saw a surge in 45% since Wednesday.
The Mumbai Daily case has been enlarged to the highest since May 5 this year.
The bengal surge is even sharper.
Covid cases in the country almost doubled in a day, up from 1,089 on Wednesday to 2,128, with calculating Kolkata increased by 102%, from 540 to 1,090.
Delhi reported 1,313 new cases, up from 923 on Wednesday.
While Kerala recorded 2,423 cases, the second highest count after Maharashtra, the pandemic continued to diminish in the state because the number of this week was lower than those in the days according to last week.

Tamil Nadu recorded 890 new cases, the highest in the state since November 7, in 707, Karnataka posted a one-day increase in the highest since September 26.
Other countries where Covid numbers jumped sharply since Rajasthan (up 92%), Bihar (71%), Punjab (67%), Uttar Pradesh (64%), Goa (54%), Madhya Pradesh (50%), Chhattisgarh (42%), Jharkhand (40%) and Haryana (38%).
In all these states, everyday cases are still below 500.
The highest count among these countries is in Jharkhand, who reported 482 new cases on Thursday.
Death, at the age of 73, remained under 100 to run the seventh day.
