New Delhi: The number of children who need hospitalization because Covid-19 is increasing in the city.
While only a small portion of children affected by infection requires hospital admission, doctors say it is still important for parents to be careful for warning signs.
According to Dr.
Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of Lok Nayak Hospital, 27 children recognized at the State Hospital for Covid care in the last three weeks.
From them, 13 was still in the hospital while the rest had run out.
“Three children in oxygen / ventilator support.
They suffer from comorbidity, including birth defects,” said Director of the Hospital.
Lok Nayak has also done more than 31 successful deliveries involving covid positive mothers since December.
During the first and second waves, 306 and 78 normal delivery were successful, respectively, was carried out at the hospital.
Some newborns are tested positive for Covid, but they have no severe symptoms, the doctor said.
DINESH VASHIST, Vice President (Operations), Rainbow Hospitals, a personal chain specializing in childcare, reaffirming the increase in the number of children who need hospitalization in Delhi-NCR.
“Children are treated for bad mouths and lethargy.
They are also accepted because of related comorbidity,” he revealed.
At present, seven children are treated in the Covid Hospital ward.
Covid symptoms in children including high-grade fever, vomiting, poor oral intake and runny benches.
Most of these subside with simtomatic management at the house itself, said Dr.
Gaurav Thukral, COO, Healthcare, who carried out triage and monitoring the house of Covid patients for the Delhi government.
Thukral said that of all patients in house isolation in Delhi, around 5% below 18 years and the level of hospital admission in this age group is less than 1% of all positive cases.
Dr.
Preeti Chadda, a Pediatric and Neonatology consultant, Moolchand Hospital, added that the majority of infected children were still treated as outpatients or at home.
One of the potential Covid complications in children is a multi-system inflammatory syndrome.
The doctor suggested a close watch for fever, sore throat, ran nose and cough.
The very small percentage of children can also develop pneumonia, fast breathing and low oxygen saturation levels.
Doctors say it is important to be careful for warning signs such as difficulty breathing, fast or superficial breath, blue lips or face, chest pain or pressure or inability to wake up or not interact when waking up in children who suffer from minor diseases .
