Ahmedabad: While some countries including Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany and the US have begun to vaccinate underage children against Covid-19, India will likely immediately offer shots.
Against this background, the research team from Iiph Gandhinagar (IIPH-G) conducted a perception survey among parents on their willingness to have their children vaccinated.
The results showed that 43% of respondents as a whole and 27% in Gujarat specifically did not want to wear their children.
The survey was conducted by 28 students led by Shubham Sharma, Anjali Vincent, and Sonal Mehta and covered 290 parents from eight countries including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Tripura.
“When we intend to open school, the vaccination of children will be the main question.
Thus, we ask parents about their willingness and the reason,” Sharma said.
“Respondents are in five categories that have high public interactions.
We also received a history of Covid transmission in their household.” This study highlights that non-willingness is higher in other countries.
Most doubts are associated with factors such as misunderstandings, fear, and lack of knowledge.
Parents say that his wife became Covid despite taking the first dose.
Thus, he does not believe it is effective.
Others say that of three children, he will vaccinate one first to see if it has a bad effect.
“He said that inpatient care produces a big cost, and thus he wants to be careful,” said a researcher.
