Bengaluru: Personal Medical High School in Karnataka has been seeking a minimum increase of 20% in costs for undergraduate programs, which states that they have suffered large losses during Covid-19 pandemic.
The establishment of oxygen plants on campus and covid testing facilities and termination of non-covid treatment during covid peak are other reasons cited by medical colleges while looking for rising costs during last week’s meeting.
While the college claimed that they demanded a 30% increase, Director of Medical Education Dr Pg Girish said the proposal was seeking an increase of 20%.
“The government has held a meeting on Monday to discuss it,” he told TI.
According to data from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka has 8,900 undergraduate medical seats.
The state government has control over 75% of these seats, which includes government and private quota seats in private universities.

The last UG medical fee increased by 25% in 2019.

Management says medical colleges “almost closed” for non-covid reception during the pandemic hurting their income, adding difficult to run universities in such conditions .
They said that from 2021-22, all seats will be allocated through counseling throughout India and this is the last year the college can negotiate with the government on the revision of costs.

Jayaram, Chairman, MS Ramaiah Medical College and Chairman of the Foundation Professional School Karnataka, all private medical colleges have been submitted to the Government of Dala M 18 last month.
“In our hospital, we submit 800 beds to the government for covid care.
There is no other treatment that can be taken in that period.

The chairman of other medical colleges said the establishment of Covid testing facilities and obligatory oxygen factory arrangements in medical colleges to increase medical oxygen supplies and storage for patients who hit them hard.
“The State Government states to bear 70% of the construction costs of oxygen mills, but universities must spend a minimum of 1.3 crore Rs,” said the head of a private medical college.
