Covid: Low 60+ Vaccination calculations in several countries worried

New Delhi: Even when Covid vaccination rates have increased significantly, low coverage among the elderly over the age of 60 years – the most vulnerable to SARS-COV2 infection – in certain countries has raised concerns in the midst of the third wave concern.
Countries such as Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Bihar and West West with a very large population at 60 years plus have very low coverage of covid vaccination doses per 1,000 population in the Covid Orf vaccine category.
ORF has analyzed Covid vaccination data until August 27.
The average national dose given per 1,000 people aged 60 years and over estimated at 947.13.
However, Tamil Nadu gave 523.05 doses, administered 651.12, and West Bengal 853.48, according to Orf Tracker.
All of the three have more than one population of the elderly crore in this age bracket.
Maharashtra who also has 1.45 crore populations over 60 years, given 951.12 doses per 1,000 for such people, slightly higher than the national average.
“The next wave tends to be limited to the situation where the whole seroprevalence, both induced, low infection and vaccine Kurian, senior colleagues, health initiatives in Orf.
Countries such as Tamil Nadu and Punjab who have a high proportion of the coverage of elderly and low vaccination can bear the burden of the next wave, except the coverage of vaccines from the elderly accelerated, he added.
According to Orf’s assessment, 61.6% of the 60 plus populations have received at least one dose and 31.4% have received both until August 27.
With the center encourage the country to accelerate the scope in this category and ensure they are immunized with two doses, there has been a significant increase in the overall vaccination recently, with countries such as rising and bihar increasing overall coverage.
However, because most rises in the first dose, it is not clear whether coverage has increased among parents.
Overall, more than 66.15 doses of crores were given throughout the country until Wednesday 9:00.
Smaller countries and UTS such as Sikkim, Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Chandigarh and Andaman & Nicobar have wider coverage of covid vaccine doses per 1,000 population 60 years and above.
The full vaccination of the elderly population also assumes significance due to co-morbidities also high in this segment, making them more vulnerable not only infection but also death.
While vaccines may not be adequately protect against infection, vaccination – especially full immunization with two doses – has proven effective in reducing severe disease and death due to Covid-19.
