Trichy: The Tamil Nadu State Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (TNSCPCR) on Wednesday said the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) has identified more than 3,600 children who lose both parents or one of them to Covid-19.
The Chairperson of TNSCPCR Saraswathi Rangasamy told reporters that the Department of Social Defense through DCPU throughout the country had found 93 children who lost their parents to Covid-19.
The number of children who lost one of the parents was 3,591, he said.
“Surveys are ongoing.
We will identify more children in the state,” he said.
The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Minister Stalin announced the rehabilitation and protection of children who had lost their parents to Covid-19.
Children under 18 years old will be given Rs 5 Lakh if they lose both parents and Rs 3 Lakh in the case of death of one of them because of Covid-19.
Financial assistance will be stored as a permanent deposit in Tamil Nadu Power Finance Corporation and the amount of maturity will be given to children as soon as they complete the age of 18 years.
Saraswathi Rangasamy and members of the Commission held a review meeting with all children’s welfare stakeholders in front of Trichy Collector S Sivarasu at the Trichy collector’s office on Wednesday.
“The Commission is determined to prevent children from the third wave of Covid-19 if there is.
The purpose of the meeting with stakeholders is to consider the work done by them to protect children from infection,” said Saraswathi.
