Beijing: Southeast China Province has reported 22 Covid-19 cases, so the total becomes 43 in a fresh outbreak driven by the Delta variant which is highly transplanted.
The health authority said Monday that 15 cases were confirmed in Putian City in the latest 24 hours.
The other six were found in the city of Quanzhou, and another in Xiamen, suggested the virus might move south of Putian.
All infections are in Fujian province, which is opposite Taiwan on the east coast of China.
The school has been closed on Putian and anyone who leaves the city must have a negative Covid-19 test evidence in the previous 48 hours.
The city suspends bus and train services on Saturdays and has a cinema, bar, and other facilities.
China mostly stopped the spread of Covid-19 but had a sporadic outbreak.
One outbreak was driven by the Delta variant spread to several provinces in July and August, raising concerns about new and more contagious variants.
