PUDUCHERRY: The daily fresh Covid-19 cases in the Union territory of Puducherry dropped below the 500-mark on Friday, for the second time in the last 57 days.
The daily test positivity rate dropped below 5% after more than two months.
There were 429 fresh Covid-19 cases even as 967 patients recovered in the last 24 hours ending at 10am on Friday, bringing down active cases to 6,156.
The last time the territory reported less than 500 cases was on June 7 (482) after recording 413 on April 14, the lowest in the last 57 days.
The positivity rate of the samples (9,159) tested on Friday was 4.7%.
Of the 6,156 patients, 5,214 are under home isolation.
The headquarters, which had the most fresh cases (322) followed by Karaikal (83), Mahe (19) and Yanam (5), also has the maximum active cases with 4,709 followed by Karaikal (1,123), Yanam (180) and Mahe (144).
Eleven patients including seven women died of Covid-19 on Friday, taking the death toll to 1,668.
Seven of them including a 33-yearold woman did not have any comorbidities.
Puducherry headquarters recorded eight deaths while Karaikal three.
Puducherry headquarters has the maximum fatalities with 1,337 followed by Karaikal (200), Yanam (100) and Mahe (31).
The infection’s fatality rate stood at 1.5%.
The territory has so far reported 1.11 lakh cases of which 1.03 lakh patients recovered, for a recovery rate of 93%.
Healthcare authorities have so far tested 11.46 lakh swab samples of which 9.89 lakh samples returned negative.
They have so far administered the Covid-19 vaccine to 3.09 lakh people (including those who got the second dose).
