MUMBAI: A gentle bout of Covid-19 required a radical turn to get a 36-year-old Kamothe resident who suffered from a stroke and is currently fighting paralysis.
Chandrashekar Reddy, father of the family’s primary breadwinner, is hardly able to sit up today after a month.
Doctors say an entire recovery can take over six months, another brain operation and intensive physiotherapy.
Reddy’s situation, however, isn’t uncommon.
Doctors have been seeing instances of stroke and heart attacks in patients that are recovering or have regained from Covid.
In the next wave, physicians are especially visiting a delayed demonstration of those complications — sometimes as much as two weeks after the individual was discharged from hospital.
Worryingly, neurologists state the elevated prevalence of stroke can be found in patients combating mucormycosis, the invasive bacterial infection.
