New Delhi: The average number of tweets associated with Covid-19 increased 600 percent in April-May this year – when the second wave is at its peak in India – compared to the February-March period, analysis by Twitter is displayed.
At the same time, tweets looking for or providing medical assistance increased by 1,958 percent.
The microblogging site conducts analysis to understand how it uses during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
When hospitals run out of resources, people depend on social media to find out about oxygen concentrators and cylinders, hospital beds and ICU beds, information distributed in real time by individuals, volunteers, community workers, NGOs.

The difficulties and sadness experienced during the second wave were translated into greater mental health information sharing on the platform.
Tweeting about mental well-being registered 153 percent jump and emoji prayer is the most tweeted over this period of time.
“From medical assistance to tweets from mental well-being, the spirit of the community activated by our services and supported is warm and humiliating,” Indian Twitter spokesman said.
While the Tweet on #indiafightscorona saw an increase of 530 percent, among local conversations and related countries, #Delhifighcorona and #maharashtrafightscorona saw a significant increase in tweets – with conversations with 1,872 percent and 2,377 percent.
